About Yan

B.S. Electrical engineering and computer Science, UC Berkeley
M.S. Electrical engineering, Santa Clara University

I have lived in Saratoga for more than 20 years. I love Saratoga and I am passionate about serving our community. Saratoga is where my husband and I started our family, and have raised three wonderful children, Ingrid, Brendon, and Angelina, who attended or are currently attending Saratoga public schools.

I have been working in the semiconductor industry for 22 years, from an IC design engineer to technical marketing and, most recently, in sales. I understand the importance of leadership, but also of listening to customers’ needs and providing exceptional service. I have been consistently ranked as a top performer among company employees.

I am well prepared to serve on the City Council, not only because of the analytic skills and leadership that have been required in my professional life, but also because of my more than 10 year history of serving our community as a volunteer. For eight years I proudly served on the Saratoga Planning Commission, including one year as Chair. I also served as a Board member and Treasurer of Saratoga Elementary PTA, Student Art Chair for the Saratoga Rotary Art Show for three years, volunteer Referee for the American Youth Soccer Organization, volunteer for the Saratoga Historical Foundation, and volunteer for Hakone Garden’s Lunar New Year celebrations. Currently, I serve as the Chair of the Board of Trustee for the Saratoga Cemetery District. Each of these volunteer activities has given me the opportunity not only to serve our community, but also to learn from it.

I am an effective leader, a consensus builder, a good listener, and an energetic “can do” person who will serve our residents’ needs. I have a proven track record of the last 15 years volunteer work in Saratoga. I will continue my love for Saratoga through actions.

Please join many Saratogans in supporting my candidacy and vote for
Yan Zhao for Council 2018. Thank you.

My Top Priorities

as a Saratogo City Council

To ensure the safety

Saratoga was rated # one the safest cities in California. I want to continue to maintain the high safety standards for all homes, streets, parks and open space. I would actively support Neighborhood Watch programs in Saratoga including additional services and funds. Work closely with county sheriffs and school deputies, provide assistances on crime prevention education programs and best practices for residents.

To maintain the semi-rural character

Most people moved here because of its natural beauty and excellent schools. I’d like to continue to work hard to maintain our great parks and trails, complete quarry park master plan, so residents can enjoy recreational activities such as picnicking, hiking, and biking in the 64 acres beautiful and historic park. Make Saratoga a desirable city for generations to come.

To improve the business vitality

I have talked with many business owners in Saratoga. I understand the challenge each business owner faces. I’d like to explore creative ways to promote economic development to keep our city vibrant while maintain its small-town charm.
